This tour takes you through the moving history and fascinating sights of Mannheim. Starting at the train station, a yellow signpost commemorates the 2,335 Mannheim Jews who were deported to the Gurs camp in 1940. Their story is representative of the suffering of many during the Second World War.

On the corner of Bismarckstraße and Kaiserring stands the impressive Bismarck monument, the work of Berlin sculptor Emil Hundrieser. Bismarck, a controversial but also important politician, is depicted several meters high in bronze and with many symbols.

In the rose garden you will find busts of Mozart and Beethoven, designed as a tribute to the great composers. This impressive building was built by Bruno Schmitz in Art Nouveau style and is considered one of the most beautiful festival halls in Germany.

The tour continues to the villa of August Lamey, an important reformist politician in Baden. His reforms, in particular the separation of church and state and the equality of Jews, made history.

The Mozart School features enchanting figures of schoolchildren from different eras. Our visit is rounded off with a look at the modern Weltstadthaus of Peek & Cloppenburg, a work of light art by the famous architect Richard Meier.

On Paradeplatz, we discover the historic pyramid by Gabriel Grupello, a bronze sculpture that once glorified the reign of Elector Johann Wilhelm.

The Angel of Peace monument by Gerhard Marcks on Schillerplatz commemorates the victims of National Socialism. This leaning sculpture was affectionately called "schepp' Liesel" by the people of Mannheim and is a symbol of remembrance and reminder.

A quiet stop is the Gothic Spitalkirche with the coats of arms of the city consuls and the mystical unicorns. Finally, we admire the continent frescoes by Philipp Hieronymus Brinckmann in the dome of the castle church.

Finally, you will learn how the magnificent Baroque palace in Mannheim came into being thanks to Elector Karl I Ludwig, after the people of Worms rejected his offer to build it.

This tour of Mannheim invites you to explore the city's history, from deeply moving memories to impressive monuments full of art and culture.
