St. Martin's Church
Sightseeing Martinskirche Ettlingen | guidable
The west façade of St. Martin's Church is dominated by the figure of the patron saint sharing his cloak with a beggar. Below it, the splendidly designed margravial alliance coat of arms of Ludwig Wilhelm and Augusta Sibylla reflects the special protection of the margravial house for this church. After the devastation of the Palatinate War of Succession, it was rebuilt in its present form with the help of Augusta Sibylla and completed in 1733. It took until the 1980s for the church, the city, the State Monuments Office and the artist Emil Wachter to work together to revitalize and complete the interior of the church with a modern ceiling painting.
