Tegel Airport
Sightseeing: Tegel Airport Berlin | guidable
Tegel Airport, also known as Berlin-Tegel Airport, was Berlin's main airport from 1975 until its closure in November 2020. The airport was built by the Germans during the Second World War and served as a base for the Allied Air Forces after the war. In the 1960s, the airport became an important transportation hub in Europe and was an important part of West Berlin's air traffic during the division of Berlin. Over the years, however, the airport had problems with capacity and noise pollution for local residents, which led to the decision to replace it with BER Airport, which was postponed several times. Finally, in November 2020, Tegel Airport was closed and BER Airport was used as Berlin's main airport.
